Nvidia has released a new video showcasing its Nvidia HairWorks graphics technology used in games including Call of Duty: Ghosts and the upcoming The Witcher 3.

The video explains that thanks to the tech a wolf in The Witcher 3 can feature 200,000 hair strands, each simulated with a secondary motion in order to “bring the wolf to life”.

You’ll also spot a horse, sporting realistically animated hair on the mane and tail.

Back at E3, The Witcher 3 executive producer John Mamais said PC gamers using Ultra settings would benefit from improved tessellation, better physics, more post-processing and increased fur realism.

You’ll need a powerful PC to make the most of these setting, but he says it will be worth it.

“Our ultra is pretty much the peak in games. At least we hope it is,” he said. “The stuff we’re doing is going to look really amazing.”

Both the PS4 and Xbox One versions are expected to offer the equivalent visual settings of PC on High.

The Witcher 3 launches February 24 for PC, Xbox One and PS4.
