Duncan Jones has publicly declared he’d like to make a movie based on classic 1995 LucasArts adventure Full Throttle for Disney Plus.
The director of Moon, Source Code and Mute tweeted to his fans this weekend (as spotted by PC Gamer), asking them to support his desire to take up the theoretical project. “If you could all tell Disney Studios how much you’d love them to let me make Full Throttle for Disney+, that would be adorable and I’d be very appreciative.”
Jones would also point to a tweet he made last year expressing his love for the series as sort of a virtual CV. Specifically, a fan film that the game’s writer and designer Tim Schafer had directed him to reminding him of his love for the adventure. So much so that he wrote his own fan script, which he subsequently published online.
In case you’re unfamiliar, Full Throttle tells the story of Ben, the leader of a biker gang who’s framed for the murder of the last motorcycle company in the country. Coming to after being knocked out by flunkies, he has to team up with mechanic Maureen to clear his name, recover his bike and track down the real culprits. The game would get a remastered release by Tim Schafer’s own Double Fine Productions in 2017.
If Jones gets his way, it wouldn’t be his first video game-to-movie project of course. Back in 2016, he directed the Warcraft movie to a relatively mixed response. Will he get his wish for a Full Throttle feature? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
