Nintendo will release a cradle attachment for the Nintendo 3DS, introducing the heavily rumoured second circle pad, pictures inside Japanese video game magazine Weekly Famitsu have confirmed – a picture of the device can be found here.
The Expansion Slide Pad is a cradle into which the regular 3DS is placed. The new circle pad lines up to the immediate right of the handheld’s four face buttons and appears smaller than the existing circle pad.
The cradle is also believed to feature R1, R2 and L2 shoulder buttons (the existing L1 button remains the same) and a new earphone port at the base. While unconfirmed, reports online suggest CE Marks on the inside of the cradle point towards the unit coming complete with a battery pack.
The slide pad was revealed alongside Monster Hunter 3G. Capcom’s smash hit franchise will be released for 3DS later this year. What’s not clear is whether the device will be utilised beyond this game.
Monster Hunter series supervisor Ryozo Tsujimoto told Famitsu that the slide pad will allow players to experience the game just like on Wii.
No release date has been confirmed for the cradle. Expect more news at Nintendo’s pre-TGS conference on September 13.
