Telltale Games is developing a narrative-driven episodic Minecraft game, the developer has announced.
This is not a joke.
“Minecraft: Story Mode will be an all-new narrative-driven game series developed by Telltale in collaboration with Mojang,” says Telltale. “Set in the world of Minecraft, the series will feature an original story, driven by player choice.”
The standalone game is set to be available on Xbox, PlayStation, PC, Mac, iOS and Android, and will “mix new characters with familiar themes, in an entirely original Minecraft experience”. The game is being developed in collaboration with members of the Minecraft community to make it “as Minecrafty as possible”.
Mojang says the first episode will be released “some time in 2015”.
“We’re not intending on creating an ‘official’ story for Steve, or explaining the world of Minecraft in detail,” commented Mojang. “It will be a cool game.”
And that’s your lot. Expect more details on the collaboration next year.
