Telltale Games has responded to the recent news surrounding the second episode of Batman: The Enemy Within where an image bears a unquestionably close resemblance to a photo take of the assassinated Russian Ambassador Andrei Karlov just after he was killed by a Turkish police officer in December 2016. This image has now been patched out of the game entirely.

After the release of the second episode last week some people began to notice a similarity between the photo of Karlov’s body and a scene in the game where a guard lies dead in the aftermath of a robbery at the Gotham Brokerage. Once this link was made, the image was then shared widely on social media and on NeoGaf.

Telltale Games has issued a statement to Gamasutra in response to the incident, saying that, ‘An update to the game has been submitted this morning that will be removing the image across all platforms. We regret this incident occurred, and we are taking appropriate action internally to ensure that we continue to maintain our high standards in Production and Quality Assurance.’

This isn’t the first time something like this has happened as a result of images used in games not being thoroughly vetted, Bungie recently had its own issues where a piece of Destiny 2 gear looked a little too similar to an racial hatred symbol.Â
