Gamers currently unsure over the new modern-day setting for Call of Juarez: The Cartel, the third game in the moderately successful first-person shooter series from Techland, will be able to make up their own mind by sampling a demo the developer plans to release.

Speaking to ScrawlFX, brand manager Blazej Krakowiak said: “We are thinking about [a demo], so you can safely say you can expect it, then.”

Krakowiak went on to discuss the reasons for choosing to create a three-player cooperative experience.

“Why always 2 or 4? We had this idea for this story for three characters, and since the story is so important, we decided ‘yeah, we can do a co-op for three, why not?’,” said Krakowiak. “There is no good reason to keep it at four or two. It just works for the story that we’re telling.”

“We could’ve done four or two; we are doing the co-op multiplayer for our other game, Dead Island, so that’s proof that we could do it, we just wanted something different here in Call of Juarez.”

Gamers hoping for local co-op are, however, out of luck.

“There are gameplay features that actually wouldn’t make much sense in local co-op,” he concluded.

Call of Juarez: The Cartel will be released for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC this summer.
