Sega has announced that Team Sonic Racing has been pushed into mid-2019, having originally been slated to appear on PlayStation 4, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One this winter.

Speaking in a statement this afternoon, Sega explained that developer Sumo Digital is looking to 'continue to hone the title to enhance the player experience to ensure Team Sonic Racing delivers the best gameplay experience possible.'

'We understand that many fans were looking forward to a Winter release and apologise for any inconvenience caused,' the company added. 'We're confident that with this additional time our teams will ensure delivering an unforgettable experience that fans can enjoy for years to come.'

Team Sonic Racing was leaked numerous times prior to its formal reveal earlier this year, and follows on from 2012's critically acclaimed Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.

Unlike that game however, the Blue Blur's latest high-speed racer focuses on characters mainly from the Sonic universe. In other words, don't expect to see Ryo from Shenmue drifting around in his forklift truck.

Team Sonic Racing will now launch on May 21, 2019.
