Red Dead Redemption 2 may be one of the biggest games coming out on current-generation systems, but that doesn't mean it'll be able to match the phenomenal success of Rockstar stablemate Grand Theft Auto 5.

Speaking with GI.biz, Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick says it's unrealistic to expect the upcoming cowboy sequel to match the near-100 million-selling crime opus, although that's not to say Red Dead 2 won't be a mammoth success in its own right.

'It's hard to expect anything to perform as well as the most profitable entertainment product of all time,' said Zelnick. 'I don't think that's a realistic expectation. Our hope, and also belief, is that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be an extraordinary creative product and that it will do incredibly well. Beyond that I can't say—I don't think anyone can say. We have to release it and see what consumers think.'

Red Dead Redemption 2 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 26, with a PC version also rumoured to be in the pipeline.

GTA 5 arrived on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in September 2013, and was later ported to PS4, PC, and Xbox One. The game's online component is still a huge money-making juggernaut for Take-Two, and likely the reason the game never received any single-player content.
