Take-Two has said it considers its BioShock franchise one of the most important in the industry, but doesn’t believe future games have to be developed by its 2K Marin studio – currently working on X-Com.

“We think BioShock is still one of the most important franchises in the industry,” Take-Two Chairman Strauss Zelnick told investors last night. “We do intend to support it; doesn’t necessarily have to be at 2K Marin, but we do intend to support the franchise.”

Zelnick added that the publisher plans to “continue to support BioShock 2 with further downloadable content,” but admits that while the game has been a success, sales for the title “slowed down sooner” than expected.

Take-Two announced the game had shipped three million units during its previous quarter.
