Nintendo has announced that it will be hosting a Super Smash Bros. tournament at E3 this June, giving players their first hands-on opportunity for the upcoming Switch instalment in the frantic beat-’em-up franchise.

The tournament will be held June 11 – 12 and will also feature the Splatoon 2 World Championship, although the Smash Bros. event is invite-only that sees top players hand-picked by Ninty themselves. Splatoon’s tournament meanwhile will see four teams that qualified across the United States and Canada, Europe, Japan, and Australia duking it out.

‘We want to have an event that showcases a really high level of play,’ said Nintendo’s Bill Trinen. ‘We want it to be be fun for the players, fun for the fans in attendance and for those streaming at home. We want to have matchups that people want to see.’

Presumably Super Smash Bros. Switch will be playable for regular attendees at E3 too, although this has yet to be confirmed. The Big N has been keeping mum on the game since its announcement earlier this month.

Super Smash Bros. Switch is due out later this year.
