For a long time it was a GameCube title but Super Paper Mario eventually made the switch to Wii following Nintendo’s swift move to abandon its predecessor. It’s now been confirmed that the platforming RPG will be released in North America on April 9.

The game is a blend of RPG elements and platforming, with a unique mix of 2D and 3D visuals. To play the game Wii users will have to hold the Remote on its side and use the d-pad for movement. The “2” button is used to jump and the “A” button will switch between 2D and 3D.

The Wii Remote will also be used to control a butterfly called Tippy which can search areas for secrets and hidden doors. Shaking the remote after jumping on an enemy also looks to be a good idea as this will gain you extra points.

At this time there’s no word on when we can expect to see the game in Europe.
