Super Meat Boy’s WiiWare release has been delayed, developer Team Meat has confirmed on Twitter.

The issue is the 40MB file size limit in place on the WiiWare channel.

“Attention internets, the Wii version is NOT coming out in Nov it’s impossible,” explained a Team Meat tweet. “We haven’t even gotten the size down under 50mb yet (goal=39mb).”

A later tweet added: “Lots of hubbub about the WiiWare delay, we are trying to gauge what we could do with the size we have without turning the game into crap.”

The possibility of a retail release on Wii was also raised.

“If we decided to try to find a publisher & do a boxed version for $20 (with extras) but come out later on the wii, would you hold out?” asked the development duo.

Expect an official update in a few weeks.

There’s better news for PC gamers, with Team Meat confirming that the PC (Steam) version will be out in the last week of November. A Mac version will follow at a later date.

Having gone down so well on XBLA, it would be a real shame for Wii gamers – those who are hardcore enough anyway – to miss out on Super Meat Boy. Great WiiWare games don’t come along all that often so Nintendo should be doing all it can to ensure Team Meat doesn’t have to pursue an on-disc retail release.
