Super Mario Run was downloaded 2.85 million times during its first day, according to a report by The Verge, more than three times the amount achieved by Pokemon Go.

If accurate, the figures put Super Mario Run on track for having “the biggest launch in the history of the Apple Store”, The Verge says. The figures are said to have been provided by app analytics company Apptopia.

Super Mario Run launched on iOS yesterday evening as a free-to-start premium title. The game’s first three levels are available to download for free, with the remainder requiring a £7.99 in-app payment. It isn’t known how many users have upgraded to paying customers.

The game is currently at the top of the iTunes App charts.
