Three seriously dedicated Minecraft players have spent 18 million blocks and 500 hours to create a two-minute stop motion video of the first level of Game Boy classic Super Mario Land.

Their Minecraft Game Boy is a 1:1 reproduction of an actual machine, meaning the screen’s ‘resolution’ is 160 blocks across and 144 blocks high – requiring the three guys to place 23,040 blocks to fill the screen for each of the 800 frames used in the video.

The accompanying music was even generated using an intricate chain of noteblocks and redstone circuits.

The achievement is the work of 21-year-old British carpenter James Wright, 29-year-old American Joe Ciappa and a 29-year-old who goes by the handle of Tempusmori and lives in the Netherlands.
