The success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie has had fans begging for more films and TV shows to be made using Nintendo IPs. With the release and major success of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom it’s fair to say everyone wants to see more of Link and Zelda including fans of anime legends Studio Ghibli.

Taking to Twitter, a Studio Ghibli fan account said, “I have a dream…” which was accompanied by an animated poster showing Hyrule and Link with the title, The Legend of Zelda: A Film by Hayao Miyazaki. Below the tweet the account also attached a number of other of images of both Link and Zelda illustrated in the traditional Ghibli style with the caption, “I beg you, Miyazaki.”

Needless to say, fans were both shocked and excited with the initial tweet well surpassing over 100,000 likes. One user by the name of GGSlavik noted their enthusiasm for the idea by saying, “DO NOT TEASE!!! This is what I want out of all Nintendo games… Metroid, Zelda, Mario.,. This is the true animated films us fans want.” Alongside this, other commentators called on Nintendo to greenlight a Zelda film project under Studio Ghibli with LionBearDad pleading with the developer and publisher saying, “Come on @Nintendo @NintendoAmerica please please pleeeeaaaassssseeeeee.”

A Studio Ghibli-led Zelda project would be a dream scenario, and could help those disappointed by a recent rumour being squashed that a Zelda film was already in the works. CEO and founder of Illumination, Chris Meledandri noted to TheWrap, “I don’t know where that came from” in relation to reports of Illumination tackling a Zelda project after The Super Mario Bros. Movie. While that isn’t an outright denial, you’d have to imagine that if the opportunity was there, Studio Ghibli would be the perfect choice to take Link for an adventure on the big screen.

While all of this is worked out by powers higher than ourselves we’re sure there are plenty of things left to explore in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. If you are already a veteran of the title or just starting out be sure to check out our guide on All 15 Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Skyview Tower locations. While Studio Ghibli has added its own art style to Zelda it’s also fun to look back on how the art direction in The Legend of Zelda has evolved over 30 years.
