Ninja Strider Hiryu is set to return in 2014 with an all-new Strider title coming to digital channels on Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, Capcom has announced.

Developed by Double Helix Games in conjunction with Capcom, Strider is a side-scrolling action platformer which promises to remain true to the franchise’s roots of fluid combat and free-flowing traversal.

The game begins in the expansive metropolis of Kazakh City, a mix of ornate Russian architecture and futuristic high-rise buildings. The year is Meio: 048, on an alternate dystopian future of Earth. The whole planet suffers under the oppressive, iron-fisted rule of the mysterious and omnipotent Grand Master Meio.

Hiryu is the youngest ever recruit to attain a Special A-Class in the hellish Strider training program, and is the only man capable of achieving the mission to eliminate Grand Master Meio.

Double Helix doesn’t have the best track record having previously created G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Front Mission Evolved, Battleship and Silent Hill: Homecoming. The California-based studio is also working on Xbox One launch title Killer Instinct.
