State of Mind release date confirmed

Futuristic low-poly thriller State of Mind will launch for PlayStation 4, PC, Switch, and Xbox One on August 15, developer Daedalic Entertainment has announced.

Taking place in the year 2048, State of Mind plonks you in the shoes of journalist Richard Nolan. Currently residing in Berlin, Rich isn't in a happy place; his wife and child have vanished, and he's losing his memories to boot.

If that wasn't bad enough, the world itself is in a bit of crappy state. Polution, crime, and wars run rampant (a bit like today, then), and people are generally feeling a bit down in the dumps. It doesn't help matters that drones and robots have begun supplanting humans in the public sector, and surveillance is ever present. 

In the midst of all this, Rich has to find out what's going on and attempt to get his life back on track, where he becomes inexorably drawn to City 5, a seemingly perfect virtual reality that people are content to live out their lives in. Sound a bit familiar? 

State of Mind has a striking aesthetic, employing low polygon character models as a visual representation of Nolan's increasingly fractured mental state. It all looks pretty sweet, to be honest.

'State of Mind is a game about transhumanism and its all-in bet on the future,' commented author Martin Ganteföhr. 'It is, however, not a game about the technology of tomorrow, but about tomorrow’s people. In the center of this narrative is the motif of separation and reunion. What happens, if the future creates fractures between body and mind? Between reality and constructs? Between biological and virtual ego?'
