If you’ve poured over the Starfield footage of late and think that it rocks, you’re not alone, as the community has been celebrating some of the smaller and more mundane features ahead of the Starfield release date.

Over on the Starfield subreddit, users have been sharing the little touches and features that build the world (or, in this case, universe) of Starfield in several threads. One, entitled ‘I love the ordinary mundane objects in Bethesda worlds’ has showcased some of these things, with screenshots of kitchen equipment, trash bins on the streets of the settlements and even slippers left by the bedroom door in someone’s abode. “One of my favourite things about Bethesda games is the stories that are told through stuff like objects in the world, skeletons, etc.” says Jesh3023.

Some users, such as Cabrelbeuk, are reminded of earlier Bethesda titles: “Flashback of my first playthrough in Morrowind. I stole every single plate and fork I would find and come back later once weight limit reached.” Others, like -Captain- also enjoy that the game even gives all these items purpose, and not just for set decoration. “I love how they gave all the clutter items a use through the crafting systems in Fallout 4. Whoever is responsible for that idea has my gratitude, because it’s fantastic.”

But it’s not just man-made clutter that players are loving. There’s even a thread entitled “I love rocks, and Starfield has the best rocks I’ve ever seen” which is gathering upvotes like a rolling stone. You can’t help but feel warm and fuzzy that these details have been noticed by people like Erilis000 “One of the first things I noticed from the early videos of Starfield was the ground texture on Mars next to the rover. I was really impressed by how varied and patternless it looked.”

It seems there’s a few others who fit nicely into the Venn diagram of being excited for Starfield and geology fans too, such as Adius_Omega who makes the bold claim “I’m confident in saying that no only do these rocks looks great, they are the most detailed and photorealistic rocks in any video game to date.”

While it’d be easy to mock these posts, or dismiss them as your typical s***posting, it is worth remembering that many, many people work on these games – and with the effort required to make something on the scale of Bethesda’s ambitions for Starfield, seeing that work given a shout-out, however minor, is certainly worth celebrating. Other things potential Starfield players have been hyped for so far include designing their own ships, and the game’s choices of fashion design.

Starfield arrives on September 6, 2023 for Xbox Series X|S and PC.
