As the final hours of Starfield’s Early Access tick away, players of the space RPG are testing the limits of Bethesda’s latest game in unusual ways.

While even Bethesda themselves have waxed lyrical about hoarding sandwiches during the game’s reveal promotion, over on the Starfield Subreddit, a user by the name of Moozipan has gone one better. They’ve shared a clip of an impressive haul of potatoes they managed to stuff into a room on their spaceship. Humorously, they begin the video picking up a singular instance of the starchy staple, before their companion Sarah tells them they’re over encumbered. So naturally, they open the door in front of them to put it into storage – which is where what must be close to a thousand spuds pour out of the room having previously only being held back by the door.

It’s an impressive display both of the gathering ability of the player in question (although they’ve not mentioned if they’ve obtained their carbo-haul through legitimate means or if they’ve used console commands) – but also the game’s physics engine as the potatoes gloriously tumble out of the door and over each other as they spill out onto the floor. “Those spill physics were beautiful” says Noxtension, and 7th Spectrum agrees. “Was gonna say, that’s an A+ spill right there. And in a Bethesda game, no less.”

A lot of players watching the video are also learning for the first time that, by and large, most objects have some kind of permanence if they’re dropped in your spaceship, which is proving useful for those already maxing out their cargo hold. “Still have stuff laying around from 10 hours ago lol,” says ChaosTB – although there’s sometimes a few quirks (given it is a Bethesda game after all). “Sometimes, there will be a bug that moves all of the items on the ship into the ship’s cargo hold,” Kei_Mei reveals “but they will eventually come back as long if you leave them in the hold as you travel.”

So if you want to hoard a spaceship full of potatoes, be our guest – although we don’t know what you’d do with them. But never mind our (potato) waffle – if the chips are down (in the hold) check out our other Starfield guides such as how to smuggle and sell contraband in Starfield if you’re trying to sneak more illicit goods around on your space travels.
