Speaking during an investor webcast prior to E3, Blizzard head Mike Morhaime has revealed the World of Warcraft creator is targeting an end of 2009 release for the highly anticipated StarCraft II.

“We’re targeting an end of year release this year for StarCraft 2, but as always, we won’t release it until it meets our standards and the expectations of our players,” said Morhaime.

So, while not set in stone, fans can at least start to get excited for a 2009 release date. If for some reason it doesn’t happen, they will have the imminent multiplayer beta to get stuck into.
