One in three Old Republic users to come from World of Warcraft, according to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter.

In an interview with NowGamer, Pachter stated one in three Star Wars: The Old Republic players will have come from World of Warcraft:

“Star Wars will clearly take some share from World of Warcraft. The western subscription MMO market consists of around 12 million people paying $15 per month, and around five million of them are WoW customers.

“My guess is that one out of three Star Wars subscribers come from WoW, so if Star Wars gets 1.5 million subscribers, WoW loses 500,000.”

When asked how Star Wars: The Old Republic will fare at its launch, Pachter went on to say:

“I expect Star Wars to sell two million trial discs, and to convert 1.5 million to subscribers within the first few months. After that, it really depends upon how good the game is.”

World of Warcraft has already seen its fanbase dwindle in the last year since the release of its last expansion Cataclysm.

While it’s likely users from most MMOs will subscribe to SWTOR when it releases, we’ll see how many users come back to WoW once Mists of Pandaria comes out.
