Two million users have volunteered to beta test the upcoming BioWare MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic.
The game reached over 725,000 users over the Thanksgiving weekend, Gamasutra reports.
According to EA CFO Eric Brown, this number of users is in part thanks to the Star Wars brand.
“The game itself has a huge pre-existing fan base. We had about 2.4 million people register for the Star Wars fan site, over 2 million of which volunteered to do [beta] testing for free.”
He adds that over Thanksgiving they saw a surge of users, while each player logged in an average of 12 hours over a three-day period:
“In terms of peak concurrent users, we had just over a quarter of a million people playing the game simultaneously.”
Star Wars: The Old Republic is scheduled to release December 20 in North America and Europe.
Analysts have already suggested the MMO will reache 3 million sales this year.
