Any success for Star Wars: The Old Republic will benefit LucasArts more so than publisher EA, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick has said.

At the recent Reuters Media Summit, Kotick explained that the LucasArts license fees would make it difficult for EA to benefit from the sales of the game.

“Lucas is going to be the principal beneficiary of the success of Star Wars,” he explained.

“We’ve been in business with Lucas for a long time and the economics will always accrue to the benefit of Lucas, so I don’t really understand how the economics work for Electronic Arts.

“If you look at the history of the people investing in an MMO and achieving success, it’s a small number.”

Despite his scepticism, analyst Doug Creutz of Cowen & Company has reported the firm believes Star Wars: The Old Republic is likely to sell roughly 3 million units in its first year of release, with the subscriber count reaching and staying at 2 million users by the end of 2012.
