GSC Game World’s controversial remasters of the original Stalker trilogy have finally received a massive mod guide for gamers. While the games initially launched to negative reception, Stalker: Legends of the Zone Trilogy Enhanced Edition players can now mod the game better than ever before.
Stalker devs release huge modding guide
Following the trilogy’s most recent update, GSC released a massive modding guide for the new remasters. With the new mod guide, players can craft more expansive mods than ever before and upload them to Steam Workshop and Mod.IO, the latter bringing mods to console players as well.
For PC mods, modders for the trilogy can change the following: animation, textures, models, sounds, shaders, configs and scripts. However, GSC confirms that players on console will feature restrictions, likely due to PlayStation’s restrictions on new assets being introduced to games.
“Because of the limitations on consoles and safety reasons, actual implementation of Mod.io SDK allows modifying only already existing files on consoles,” the developers explained. “It means that content like new models or sounds can be added to the games using the SDK only as a replacement for the already existing files. In other words, changes can only be introduced to currently used game files.”
Obviously, these changes don’t apply to the PC version. However, the developer notes that changes should not be made to DLL files or the games’ core EXE files.
GSC Game World has also released new versions of xrCompress for both Mod.IO and Steam Workshop that allow modders to create PAK files. There’s also a new program to create shaders for the game, and a tool to upload mods to the Steam Workshop.

This is just the start of the modding support for the new remastered versions of the classic Stalker trilogy. GSC has confirmed that “both the guide and the available tools will continue to evolve and expand” in the future.
Additionally, true mod support for Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is almost here with the Beta SDK becoming available for modders later this month.
