The release of Stalker 2 has been a rough period for fans of the game. While many, including ourselves, are enjoying the survival game, even developer GSC Game World have admitted the game is broken. With the devs hard at work patching the game’s systems, modders are already attempting to remedy its broken A-Life AI mechanics.

Stalker 2 A-Life patched by modders

A-Life is the entire heart of the Stalker series, allowing its NPC characters to behave in realistic ways. While the new sequel does have the same system, it’s currently broken, forcing weird spawns and stopping the world from feeling as alive as its predecessors.

Multiple modders are attempting to fix the A-Life system at the same time. One mod, titled “Super A-Life maybe” aims to fix the “online simulation”, the 100 metre space around players where AI spawns, but it can’t fix the “offline simulation” that affects the wider world.

The mod, which has almost 10,000 downloads, has been well received by players as it reduces mutant spawns and makes “A-Life scenarios” more frequent. However, it can’t fix the game’s biggest spawning issues right now.

“Without access to the scripts that actually handle AI spawning we cannot fix hardcoded issues like AI spawning directly on top of you, but we can at least make most random events try to spawn further away,” the modder explained.

Another mod, “A-Life Bandaid Fix” is a more simple solution, eliminating close-range spawns, although it also can’t stop the game’s issue of soldiers spawning right in front of players. This mod increases the spawn distance by five times, allowing you to see more variety in the distance.

Finally, another A-Life mod titles “Roadside Panic”, a fun play on the original Stalker book’s name, also aims to fix the same system. This mod “heavily mitigates cases of enemies appearing out of thin air right behind you” and has more NPC interactions, such as territory fighting, further into the distance.

“This mod restores the chaotic dynamism of the old Stalker games, the modder explains. “It also murders your framerate, so you can enjoy the authentic 30fps 2007 Shadow Of Chernobyl gameplay experience.”

Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is currently available on Xbox Series consoles and PC.
