The HD Remix of classic fighting game Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo will be released this year, Capcom has confirmed.

Speaking in an interview with The Street Fighter Blog, the game’s associate producer Rey Jimenez said that the team would be announcing the release date “fairly shortly”.

The news will reassure fans who have started to worry that SSF2THDR might slip to 2009 following technical problems revealed by the online Xbox LIVE open beta, which has already been patched once.

Jimenez said: “We’re on track to release the game this year and barring any unforeseen catastrophic event, that should not be changing.”

He added: “You should be hearing a release date fairly shortly. Sorry, that’s about as specific as I can get. PR would have my head on a stick if I announced a release date.”

As always, as soon as we hear from Capcom, we’ll let you know. In the mean time, be sure to check out our hands-on preview right here.
