Gamasutra reports that the biggest-selling title of 2008 so far in the US is not the record-setting GTA 4, but Super Smash Bros. Brawl on Wii.
While figures are only estimates, Gamasutra notes that SSBB has sold 3.5 million units in calendar year 2008. The game is 100,000 units ahead of Mario Kart Wii, which in turn is 200,000 units ahead of GTA 4 on Xbox 360. Wii Play is currently placed at No.4 and Wii Fit at no.5
SSBB – Wii – 3.5 million units
Mario Kart Wii – Wii – 3.4 million units
GTA 4 – Xbox 360 – 3.2 million units
Wii Play – Wii – 3.0 million units
Wii Fit – Wii – 2.8 million units
GTA 4 on PS3 is some way off the Top 5 and is estimated to have sold 1.8 million units by the end of October.
Wii Play is in the unusual position of being a Top 5 title for two years running, having sold 4.12 million units in 2007. A strong run this Christmas could see the game reach 4 million once again.
