Nintendo of America has announced that after just one week on sale Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Wii has sold more than 1.4 million units in the United States, including a huge 874,000 units on March 9.
Between launch and March 16 the game sold at a rate of more than 120 units per minute.
“Super Smash Bros. Brawl has made the leap from video game to cultural phenomenon,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Game reviewers and the public alike praise its fun game play and extensive, inventive content.”
It’s hardly surprising to see SSBB achieve record sales figures; Super Smash Bros. Melee for GameCube became the best-selling game on the platform with more than seven million units sold worldwide.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl has now launched in Japan and North America, but is still without a confirmed release date in Europe.
