It’s been confirmed that Taku Murata, general manager of the Square Enix technical research division, is to host a GDC 2008 session entitled, “The Technology of Final Fantasy”.
Under Murata’s leadership Square Enix is currently developing the common technology platform, a new game engine to be used across a range of titles. It was previously known that this technology would be used to power Final Fantasy XIII and now, via the session’s description, it has been revealed that a new Square Enix MMO will also use the engine.
The session is scheduled to take place on February 22, 2008 and promises to describe the whole process of the engine’s development.
