Sports Interactive has released a statement about why a FM24 data update is not possible ahead of the release of the new game next year. The statement, which was posted on X, and captured below, said it would be a ‘substantial undertaking’ and would ‘take critical resources’ away from the upcoming game.
The statement reveals the devs considered a data update, but the work required quickly meant it was not a viable route forward. “…Despite a good initial response from many of our licensors, we cannot lift assets that we are using in FM25 and make the work in FM24 without recreating them in full,” it reads.
“The same applies to the many competition rules, translations and database changes that cannot be back ported. The updated assets and data would both be required to obtain licensor approval – they cannot be separated.”

FM25 was due to be released this year, but was delayed suddenly, despite a roadmap outlined by SI. A data update would have been an obvious move, allowing those who already have the game to simply update the data-set with the latest player and team information. Despite not being viable this time, the idea of fresh wave of data every year rather than a full-fat game could well be a route forward for the franchise in future.
The good news about FM is while a new data set would have been fantastic, there are plenty of challenges and scenarios to try. If you’re looking to keep yourself busy, why not give the Penatagon Challenge a go.
The new game is currently slated for March 2025, which has led to some speculation it could be cancelled altogether to avoid it clashing with FM26. As soon as the news was announced, Si offered full refunds for those who had pre-purchased the game.
