Portal-meets-Halo FPS Splitgate will be having its beta extended “for the foreseeable future” developer 1047 Games has announced.

The free-to-play shooter has enjoyed huge success since launching a cross platform beta a few months ago. It proved so popular that it saw more than ten million downloads in its first 30 days of being available.  The studio had already extended the beta period once before after it managed to secure a $10 million USD investment from a venture capital firm last month. At that time, the team intended to bring the beta to a close in late August.

While 1047 Games worked diligently to increase server capacity, the decision has been made to keep the game in an open beta state as they work to decrease wait times even further. CEO and co-founder Ian Prolux explained the move. “In looking at the issues facing the scalability of the game’s backend, the process includes far more than simply dealing with server capacity,” he said.

“We are focused on keeping the game stable for fans, and iterating on the game’s concurrent capacity in order to minimize player wait times. We want to do this the right way, and we want to be prepared for massive scale when we officially launch, all the while continuing to improve the beta with frequent updates, additional features, and improvements to server capacity.”

The team thanked the fans for their support, and have pledged several content updates for the rest of the year. This includes an update today that will add Ranked Duos mode. The team are also promising a “significant announcement” at this year’s Gamescom event on August 25.

The Splitgate beta is available now and free-to-play on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC.
