Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 has launched to worldwide acclaim, offering tonnes of content for fans of Games Workshop’s universe. While the game includes loads of modes to play through and classes to enjoy, it also lacks key options such as an FoV slider, and the devs will not be adding them.
Don’t expect a Space Marine 2 FoV slider
Following the launch of Space Marine 2, developer Saber Interactive released its first Q&A for the game’s post-launch content. Alongside revealing lore restrictions limiting the game’s Chaos customisation, the developer explained why an FoV slider won’t be added to the game.
In the Q&A, Saber told fans the team is not “comfortable” with adding a field of view setting to the game. While one exists in the game’s photo mode, the developers claim that adding a wider or narrower option to the title’s gameplay would “degrade the visual aspect” of Space Marine 2.
“It can degrade the visual aspect of the game.”
Saber interactive
“[Adding an] FoV slider is not something we are comfortable with, as it can degrade the visual aspect of the game. And on top of that, it is very complex,” the developer told fans in the blog post. “Our game is not a first person shooter, the camera that we have is very cinematic and constantly changes position and FoV based on what you are doing.”
However, this doesn’t mean that the setting won’t come. In fact, Saber is considering the request, due to its popularity. However, there is a strong likelihood that FoV options will not be added to the Warhammer game. If you really need a wider FoV to enjoy the game, a talented modder has already created a method to do so which you can download here.
Shoulder-swap won’t come either
Alongside the denouncement of an FoV slider, Saber explained that the much-requested shoulder-swap feature won’t be coming to the game. Due to the way that melee animations are designed and how weapon stances are made, the swapping feature will not be developed for a future update.
“If we are to implement shoulder swap we will need to support it for all melee animations and transitions because everything in melee combat was made based on the fact that you hold pistol in the left hand and melee weapon in the right hand (because it looks badass),” the developer said. “Nevertheless, shoulder swap is a feature we will not add in the game.”
While some fans may be upset at the decision to not add in these options, it is refreshing to hear a developer say “no” to fans. Sure, an FoV slider would be nice, but if it does break the game’s style, and the developers don’t want to add it, then it’s not essential.
