Uchiyama, best known for work on the Dragon Ball Z series of games, has confirmed to GameDaily that a new game in the Soul Calibur franchise is already in development.

During a conversation about the future of the DBZ series, Uchiyama has revealed that in an ideal world he would have liked one of Namco’s development teams to work on a DBZ game – if development of a new Tekken game and a new Soul Calibur title hadn’t already begun. The question is whether or not this new Soul Calibur title is a fourth game in the series.

Unfortunately Uchiyama didn’t spill any further info, and the new game that Uchiyama referred to could just have easily been the unfinished arcade version of SCIII (released April 2006 in Japan), or even a version of Soul Calibur in development on PSP. There’s also the possibility that the new game could be a fourth instalment in the series and is heading to a next-gen console or two. We’ll have to wait for an official announcement later down the line.
