Sony is still unsure whether it will host a press conference at this year’s Gamescom or wait for October’s Paris Games Week, PlayStation Europe boss Jim Ryan has said.

Asked where Sony will be hosting its European press conference this year by VG247, Ryan replied: “It’s not decided. It’s a tough one to call. It’s a balancing act between timing, availability of software, announcements to be made.

“We’ve had a long history of enjoying Gamescom,” he continued, “we went to Paris last year and really enjoyed that with such an iconic venue. So plans are still afoot…”

Sony chose not to host a press conference at Gamescom last year for the first time in its history, instead hosting a conference a few months later at Paris Games Week. Part of its reasoning for it, however, was due to the timing of last year’s E3 and Gamescom.

“With the changes this year of E3 taking place a week later and Gamescom taking place earlier, we feel that both PlayStation and the wider industry would benefit from a major news milestone later in the year, during the most important period for gaming,” Sony said at the time.

This year’s Gamescom begins on Thursday, August 18, with Paris Games Week opening two months later on October 27.
