Sony is investigating a “small” number of PlayStation 4 hardware failures, Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed.
Yoshida’s comments follow reports overnight that numerous users who had got their hands on PS4 early had been experiencing problems with the hardware. One user claimed that their PS4 had stopped working altogether, while IGN and Kotaku both reported problems with the HDMI output on their systems.
“Be assured we are investigating reported PS4 issues,” tweeted Yoshida. “The number is very small compared to shipped, we believe they are isolated incidents.”
It isn’t yet clear quite how widespread the problem may turn out to be. The console doesn’t officially go on sale in the US until tomorrow, November 15, with a UK release following two weeks later on November 29.
