Sony Pictures has hired Jay Basu to write the screenplay for a movie adaptation of Metal Gear Solid, Deadline reports.

The Kings of Summer’s Jordan Vogt-Roberts is also reported to have been signed up to direct, with Marvel creative chief Avi Arad on board to produce.

Metal Gear Solid, however, will likely be one of Basu’s biggest projects yet, with his previous credits including 2012 sports drama Fast Girls and last year’s Monsters: Dark Continent.

A release date for the movie has yet to be confirmed.

News that a Metal Gear Solid was in production was first revealed by Kojima almost nine years ago, before appearing to run into trouble at the turn of the decade.

But with a writer, director and production team now on-board, it seems as if the movie could be back on track. Whether Kojima is still involved, however, remains unknown
