It was only a matter of time wasn’t it? Today at his keynote speech, SCE president of Worldwide Studios, Phil Harrison, announced that players will be able to acquire trophies for accomplishing certain goals within a game, directly competing with Microsoft’s achievement system, minus the numerical value.
By using Sony’s ‘Home’ service, players will have access to their own Hall of Fame – a hub of sorts where you can customize your environment and proudly display your trophies for the world to see. Additionally, it appears that trophies can be earned for not only PS3 titles but PS2 as well, as Phil mentioned while displaying awards from God of War 2.
No date was given on when players can start earning these trophies, but since the system relies on Sony’s Home service, which begins this April (for Beta) and is available worldwide in the fall, players will likely have to wait until then.
Now the real question is: Will Nintendo follow suit?
