Sony boss labels Wii an ‘expensive niche game device’

Bloomberg reports that Sony Corp. CEO Howard Stringer has labelled the Wii a “niche gaming device” and believes the console is no rival to Sony’s PlayStation 3.

“I’ve played a Nintendo Wii,” said Stringer at the Allen & Co. media conference last week. “I don’t see it as a competitor. It’s more of an expensive niche game device.”

We’re already getting execs throwing punches and E3 hasn’t official begun yet. Expect plenty more “we’re better than the opposition” talk beginning with Microsoft’s E3 press conference this evening – 6:30pm UK time.
