SCEE president Jim Ryan has said that the company is “aware of the considerable affection” for PlayStation mascot Crash Bandicoot, but there is nothing to say about a new game “at this stage”.

Asked about the possibility of a new game in the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine (as reported by PSU), Ryan said: “Um… we’re certainly aware of the considerable affection—even reverence—in which the mighty Crash is held. But nothing to update at this stage in that area.”

Early Uncharted 4 spoilers follow:

Earlier this month, Sony confirmed that Activision still owned the rights to Crash Bandicoot after his appearance in Uncharted 4 led to speculation that the platform holder could have reacquired the license. Neither party has yet commented on details of the agreement.

The Crash Bandicoot license has been owned by various third-parties following his debut in 1996, including Konami, Vivendi, Sierra and Activision. The latest core game in the series, Crash: Mind over Mutant, released on Xbox 360, PS2, PSP, Wii and Nintendo DS in 2008.

Activision has yet to announce any future plans for the franchise.
