A redesigned version of PlayStation Vita will release in Japan on October 10, 2013, Sony has announced.
The new PCH-2000 model will be 20 per cent slimmer slimmer and 15 per cent lighter than the existing PS Vita, weighing 219g and measuring just 15mm wide.
It’ll also include 1GB of on-board memory and boast a stronger battery life, which has been improved by one hour to allow for a maximum of six hours play time.
However, the Vita’s current OLED screen has been replaced by an LCD screen, and drops 3G connectivity of one of the earlier models.
The PS Vita Slim will be available in a range of colours, including white, yellow, pink, silver, blue and black, and launch for 18,980 Yen (£121).
A release outside of Japan has yet to be confirmed, and it isn’t yet clear whether the new model will make it to the UK.
In a statement provided to VideoGamer.com this morning, SCEE said: “We’ve not made any announcement about whether the 2000 series & VITA TV will be releasing in the UK / Europe.”
Sony announced a price cut to the existing PlayStation Vita last month, dropping the price to around £169.99.
