Sony has announced that it will release four UMD movies in North America on the 19th April 2005. They also plan to start releasing some UMD movies in Japan, where the PSP’s movie playing abilities hasn’t been one of the launches big selling points.

The four titles announced for release are xXx (no brain is required to watch this, and the lack of one may in fact make it more enjoyable), Hellboy (entertaining action movie about a giant red man with horns), Resident Evil: Apocalypse (even worse than the first Resident Evil movie) and Once Upon a Time in Mexico (mildly disappointing follow-up to El Mariachi and Desperado).

Spider-Man 2 will come bundled with the first million PSP units sold in the U.S, but Sony hasn’t announced if it will be available to buy outside of the Value pack. Sony plan to release more movies every month. We hope that their next batch is of higher quality.

We’ll bring you more news on the PSP and PSP UMD movies when more details emerge.
