Following the BBFC’s decision to reject Manhunt 2 for Wii and PS2, essentially banning the game from being released in the UK, the Entertainment Software Ratings Board has handed out an Adults Only rating for the game in the US.
Although awarded a rating, unlike in the UK, an Adults Only rating as good as bans the game from release. Speaking to GameSpot, both Nintendo and Sony have confirmed that they will not allow an Adults Only rated title to be released on their hardware platforms – incidentally Microsoft has the same policy.
“It’s currently our policy not to allow the playback of AO-rated content on our systems,” a Sony spokesperson told GameSpot.
“As stated on Nintendo.com, Nintendo does not allow any AO-rated content on its systems,” said a Nintendo rep.
This leaves Rockstar with the option to appeal the Adults Only rating or to modify the game and have it re-rated.
