In Sonic Riders you play as one of four characters from the Sonic universe, and go head-to-head with your top rivals. A blend of fast paced racing, classic 2D Sonic platforming, and 3D backgrounds sees players charging through tracks in both single-player and wireless multiplayer modes.

Getting to the finish first is the goal, so making use of special power-ups and boosts is essential if you’re to come out on top. Trip, shove, and even vault over other players as you negotiate the twisting 3D tracks, all the time on the look out for Dr. Eggman and his array of traps.

Sonic Rivals brings back the classic 2D platform gameplay that started it all, and douses it with vibrant three-dimensional environments,” said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. “In this heated rivalry, gamers are tested to prove not only who’s the fastest but who has the best head-to-head gameplay strategy.

Each of the four playable characters includes their own unique storyline, giving players a reason to play through the game multiple times. Characters can also be customised with the use of trading cards that are gained throughout the single-player game. These cards can also be gambled in multiplayer, giving racers something real to play for.

Sonic celebrates his 15th anniversary this year, having sold more than 44 million units worldwide. Expect to see a lot more of Sonic Rivals at E3, with the game scheduled for release in the autumn.
