Snake’s Japanese voice actor Akio Otsuka has reportedly asked fans not to cancel their pre-orders of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain following the ongoing controversy between Hideo Kojima and Konami.
In a tweet posted yesterday (translated by Google and @JunkerHQnet), Otsuka is said to have asked fans to stop boycotting the upcoming game, saying: “The TPP team is the same, so please don’t cancel preorders or encourage others not to buy it.”
Konami removed Kojima’s name and Kojima Productions’ logo from Metal Gear Solid branding last month, prompting speculation of a feud between the two parties.
The move was followed by a report claiming that Kojima is to leave the company following The Phantom Pain’s release later this year – something that has yet to be confirmed or denied by Konami.
Last week, Konami reinserted Kojima’s name into the marketing material of older Metal Gear Solid titles but has yet to reinstate it in The Phantom Pain or last year’s Ground Zeroes.
A new Metal Gear title was confirmed by Konami shortly after the reports, with development to be headed up by a new key staff.
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain launches on PS3, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox 360 on September 1, with a PC release following on September 15.
