Project CARS 2 developer Slightly Mad Studios has confirmed it is muscling its way into the console space with the announcement of The Mad Box.

Speaking on Twitter, Slightly Mad's CEO Ian Bell revealed that the new system will be the most 'powerful console ever built,' and will support 4K as well as the ability to experience virtual reality games at 120fps, or 60fps per eye.

Speaking of VR, The Mad Box will support Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and existing PC-based peripherals such as flight sticks and racing wheels. The system is expected to arrive on the market in around three years, said Bell, and will be 'competitive with upcoming console prices.'

'It will support most major VR headsets and those upcoming and the specs will be equivalent to a very fast PC 2 years from now,' he told Variety.

'We’re in early talks with manufacturers of components so we can’t say much more right now other than we have the designs speced out in detail.'
