Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition is 1080p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition will run at 1080p/30fps on both PS4 and Xbox One, Square Enix has confirmed to VideoGamer.com.

I was given the opportunity to go hands-on with the PS4 version of the upcoming remaster last week, with the Definitive Edition’s dynamic lighting and volumetric fog breathing a new lease of life into the last-gen open worlder.

United Front Games is handling both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions itself, Square confirmed, with the power of the next-gen consoles apparently letting the developer squeeze in 25 per cent more NPCs onto Hong Kong’s city streets.

Each of the main characters have received tweaks to their character models, too, which Square claims has led to improved faces, while the number of objects in the environment has been increased to provide more items to smash during fights.

Oh, and the higher resolution textures found in the Definitive Edition means that the creases in Wei Shen’s jacket now look even lovelier than they did before.

That said, the frame rate of the PS4 version did appear to dip slightly during moments of intense action, although with optimisation still underway, it’s impossible to determine whether the issues will still be present in the final game.

VideoGamer.com has not yet been given access to the Xbox One version for comparison.

Outside of the visuals, Square says that tweaks have been made to the game’s physics and vehicle handling, although such improvements weren’t immediately noticeable during my hands-on. Getting behind the wheel of one of the game’s sports cars, for example, felt similarly weightless to those in the original release.
