Creator of The Swindle Size Five Games has announced that it is delaying its upcoming point and click adventure Lair of the Clockwork God as it won't make its originally intended August 2019 release.

Making the announcement on the Size Five blog, Dan Marshall said 'Ben and I identified a couple of areas in the game that were a bit… lacking. They were conceptually very strong, but a bit thin in terms of puzzles and player engagement. I’ve spent a lot of time adding new content (puzzles, dialogue, areas) to those sections, and bolstering those bits to bring them up to the same quality as the rest of the game. That process has taken a couple of months.'

Marshall also cites the changing landscape of the indie scene as reasons for the delay, saying that he wants to make sure the studio leaves enough time to develop it properly: 'Getting Clockwork God noticed has been a lot more effort than the last time I released a ‘big game’ back in 2015. A lot has changed out there. Getting noticed is a full time job, and I’m not keen to push the game out unless it has every chance of being a huge success. '

Lair of the Clockwork God is the follow up adventure to 2008's Ben There, Dan That! and 2009's follow up Time Gentlemen, Please, continuing to follow the exploits of Dan and Ben – heroes based on the developers themselves and their unlikely scrapes based on popular point and click games that inspired them, particularly influenced by the LucasArts adventures of the early 90s. It's very self referential, as you can probably gather from the trailer we've embedded below.

Lair of the Clockwork God doesn't have a new release date yet, with Marshall saying 'Hopefully in 2019, if I find a window or run out of money, or decide “screw it, I’m not really competing with those games”. Maybe I’ll have to sit on it till early 2020 where I can find the space to do it justice? I’m not entirely sure.'
