Six month period sees 7.33 million Wiis sold

Nintendo has announced its half year financial results – ended September 30 – revealing Wii sales of 7.33 million units and Nintendo DS sales of 13.35 million units.

Sales were up 132.5% to $6.08 billion, resulting in profit for the period of $1.15 billion. Handhelds accounted for $1.85 billion sales, consoles $1.76 billion and software $2.11 billion. The company forecasts profit for the year to reach $2.41 billion.

The highlights from Nintendo’s software releases were Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, moving 6.95 million units in the six month period (12 million lifetime), and Mario Party 8 on Wii which sold 2.89 million units.
