SimCity’s long-awaited game update to enable offline play is now rolling out, EA and Maxis have confirmed.

The game’s servers were taken offline at 1pm GMT in order for Update 10 to be deployed. 80 minutes later the game’s QA team began checks to ensure everything was as it should be.

In total the game servers should only be unavailable for a few hours.

The new offline Single Player Mode will allow players to game offline by themselves. Saved games are stored locally, meaning you can save and load however many times you wish. Players can still choose to go online if they wish.

Offline support also means big things for the modding community, who are now able to modify the game and its components without compromising the integrity of the Online game.
