A new Kickstarter horror game bravely combines the horrors of Silent Hill and FIFA football in a unique survival horror game inspired by Konami’s iconic franchise. Dubbed FEAR FA 98 (get it?) the new horror title has just started crowdfunding, and it looks utterly insane.
FEAR FA 98 rips on Silent Hill
Created by indie developer Jacob Jazz, FEAR FA 98 is in development for PC, Xbox Series, PS5 and Nintendo Switch. The upcoming game is described as a “horror arcade soccer simulator” that “combines all the competitive elements of the soccer world with the horror aspects that made series like Silent Hill or Manhunt great”.
On the surface, the upcoming horror football game looks like a PS1-era FIFA game, albeit one drenched in a thick layer of fog. However, you’re also able to equip your team with weapons and summon demonic forces to help as the environment works against you, traps pop up and monsters attempt to rip your players to shreds.
Alongside taking influence from the likes of Silent Hill, developer Jacob Jazz is also working on a Resident Evil 4 over-the-shoulder camera mode. How that works, we don’t know, but it sounds pretty damn sick.
Not just a football game
Alongside the game’s local and online multiplayer mode and traditional player-v-computer matches, FEAR FA 98 also includes a full story mode for players to explore. In a world where humanity has mostly perished, you’ll learn more about this weird, footie-themed horror universe and what happened to The Earth.
It’s as 90s as a game can get, really. Not only does it look like a late-era PlayStation game, but the vibes are immaculately drenched in 90s edginess. Some would say it’s a game that developers just don’t make anymore, but obviously someone is.
